Our Story

The Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts (SIVA) is an exciting summer music and theater program that offers young singers the opportunity to study under the guidance of New York City and Boston industry professionals.

The SIVA program is headed by New York City based team Briar Forsythe, SIVA’s General Director, and Lisa-Anne Tamagini, SIVA’s Artistic Director. Lisa-Anne Tamagini has been a professional opera and classical singer for over twenty-five-years, and is passionate about sharing her knowledge regarding the importance of a solid vocal technique, and the necessary skills to be a professional singer.

Briar Forsythe, studied classical voice and is fervent supporter of the performing arts. Ms. Forsythe is a philanthropist, successful entrepreneur and owner of the Willowdale Estate, an award winning events and catering company on the North Shore of Massachusetts, which serves as a corporate sponsor for the Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts. Together, Ms. Forsythe’s business acumen and Ms. Tamagini’s professional performing background, inspired them to create a new summer program outside of the city, providing a training ground for young singers that wish to pursue a career in the vocal performing arts.

Our Mission

SIVA’s mission is to offer quality vocal instruction for young singers in all styles (musical theater, contemporary, opera, and jazz) pursuing careers in the vocal arts. Students will be instructed through the fundamentals of classical technique by seasoned voice teachers from New York City and Boston, who have worked professionally, or are currently working in the performing arts industry.

The SIVA program endorses all aspects of the conservatory training and offers a variety of performance opportunities that will benefit singers in developing their skills, confidence, and preparing them for a professional career in the vocal performing arts.

Our Apprentice Program is for advanced vocal students (minimum age 13) wishing to receive continued vocal training and education for auditions, shows, and eventual placement in a conservatory or musical theatre program. Leading professionals and music educators provide daily lessons and coaching, as well as classes in acting, movement, and musicianship skills. In an intensive, yet supportive, environment, students will experience life in a musical school program, further enhancing their vocal studies. These students will have the opportunity to be in a main production.

Our Young Artist Program is for the pre-professional vocal student who has a strong interest in pursing a professional career as a singing actor.  Our Young Artists will work audition repertoire and select pieces from the summer show with esteemed vocal teachers, conductors, and coaches. Singers will perform in masterclasses and our mainstage production, while fine tuning details of vocal technique, interpretation, and stage presence.

Student placement in our programs is based on vocal education, quality and control of your instrument, and resume.

The Summer Institute for the Vocal Arts is a non-profit organization that welcomes all religions, races, sexual orientation, gender expression, and class backgrounds.
