Vocal coach and collaborative pianist Elaine Smith Purcell, maintains a coaching studio in Boston, Massachusetts.   Elaine studied vocal coaching and accompanying with Warren Jones at The Manhattan School of Music, where she later joined the coaching staff.  Ms. Purcell is also an alumna of the prestigious Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.  As chorus master, the New York Post reviewed her work as “lusty and well-disciplined”.  She has collaborated on rare Spanish zarzuela gems with New York’s Alta Clásica and The University of New Hampshire as well as more standard productions with The Bronx Opera Company, Des Moines Metro Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theater Center, and New England Conservatory.  

As an educator, Ms. Purcell teaches a wide range of vocal repertoire spanning the Baroque improvisational airs, standard classical Art Songs and musical theatre repertoire from the golden age to contemporary writers.  She guides and mentors students at the prestigious performing arts high school, Walnut Hill School for the Arts, the Opera Theater Workshop at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and The Training Institute at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University.   Ms. Purcell specializes in lyric diction of the English language and has taught American and British diction at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music.
